Abstract (EN)

The diversity in the world and in Turkey increases with the contribution of immigrations as well as social and cultural changes. The education system has a vital role in responding to diversity in a society where diversity is increasing. In this context, the study focuses on analyzing the opinions of school administrators related to diversity. The study group for the research, which is designed as qualitative research, is determined using purposive sampling. 31 school principals, selected from primary and secondary schools in the center of Silivri district of Istanbul, participate in the research. The research data are collected through interviews. 16 school principals and 15 school assistant principals from 16 schools are interviewed using a semi-structured interview form. The data obtained from the interviews are analyzed descriptively using context analysis. According to the results of the research, the school administrators generally believe that increasing social diversity has negative effects in social, cultural and economic areas. At the same time, even though it is limited, it is mentioned that social diversity contributes to society and is wealth. The findings indicate that the school administrators and teachers should be supported in the matter of variety, multicultural education or intercultural education.
