The views of principals and teachers on the entrepreneural characteristics of school principals

The aim of this study is to determine the views of principals and teachers about entrepreneurial characteristics of principals working in Bolu. Qualitative research method was used in the study. The participants consisted of eight principals and eight teachers who were determined by maximum diversity technique. The principals and the teachers were determined according to different categories as public schools, private schools, primary schools, secondary schools, principals, teachers, gender, rural and city center and data was collected. Semi-structured interview form was used to collect data. Obtained data was analyzed by descriptive analysis method. What are the advantages of having the entrepreneurial characteristics of the principals in work, which entrepreneurial characteristics principals can have what might be the positive and negative effects of the entrepreneurial characteristics of the principals, whether principals provide opportunities towards the management, teachers, students, society and families based on their entrepreneurial characteristics, which obstacles they face or may encounter during the enterprise activities are discussed. In addition, it was tried to obtain information about how to develop entrepreneurial characteristics of principals. As a result, based on the opinions of the principals and the teachers, it was found that personal characteristics are important in entrepreneurial characteristics of principals and these personal characteristics includes characteristics as beinginnovative, having strong communication abilities, being able to make projects, being able to take risks, etc. It is also seen that entrepreneurial characteristics provide many contributions to school (developing school, improving professional performances etc.) while the negative characteristics are negligible and these characteristics are limited to situations such as the negative effects of the motivation of principals who cannot do what they want due to problems such as legislation, regulations, etc., or personal negative behaviors (arrogance, ambition) affecting people negatively. In addition, it has been determined that the meaning of the entrepreneurial characteristics of principals is expressed by situations such as innovative thinking, having a researcher spirit and realizing their ideas.
