Analyzing the relation of school principals' leadership behaviors on teachers' work motivation

Abstract (EN)

In the information age, educational organizations need effective leaders in order to create difference and more success. Therefore, school principals' leadership behaviors should keep step with this developing and changing age. School principals should behave as a directive, connective for the common purposes and motivator. For this reason, this study built up firstly certain leadership behaviors is explained, later the relationship between authentic leadership and teachers' job motivation is clarified. Whether this research is a screening model, the aim of this study is to measure the effect and the relationship between school principals' authentic leadership behaviors and teachers' job motivation levels. The universe of this study is teachers who work in public and private schools in Istanbul. By using random sampling method, the sampling of this study is constituted 276 females, 179 male and totally 455 teachers who work in private and public high schools in Istanbul Anatolian side. The data collecting tools which is used in this study are "The Authentic Leadership Scale" includes 16 items which is used to determine the authentic leadership levels of school principals and "The Motivation Scale' includes 14 items which is used to identify teachers' job motivation levels. According to the perceptions of high school teachers, there is a positive relationship between school principals' being authentic leaders and teachers' job motivation levels.
