Violence tendencies of school administrators in terms of teachers? perceptions

Violence can be described as a physical, verbal or psychological attack or threat against self or others. The violent behaviours of school administrators can harm teachers as physically or psychologically. This study was conducted in order to determine what kind of violence teachers were exposed. In this study, it is aimed to examine teachers? perceptions on violence tendencies of school administrators in terms of three sub-dimensions of violence; physical violence, verbal violence and psychological violence.The sample of the research consists of 300 teachers chosen objectively from 12 primary schools in Bağcılar disctrict of Istanbul province.In the research, as data gathering tool, Administrators? Violence Scale developed by the researcher was used. In the first part of the scale, information form in which the demographic data such as the sexes of the teachers, their marital status, their age, their educational level, their field, their service years and employement type was gathered, takes part in. In the second part of the scale, 36 questions are asked in order to determine the violence tendencies of school administrators.In order to examine the differences between male and female, single and married, primary school and secondary school teachers in terms of their opinion about violence tendencies of school administrators, Test ?t? was used. In order to determine whether there is a significant difference between their opinions about violence tendencies of school administrators, Anova was used.To the findings of the research, teachers think that their administrators show no violence tendency as verbally, physically or psychologically.According to teachers? perceptions, the administrators mostly do those behaviours: ?interferes my work?, ?follows my every step?, ?ignores my work?, ?overcontrols my work? and ?is not fair at evaluation of my performance?.
