Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study is planned to evaluate the effect of diabetes education on nutrition and diabetes knowledge levels in the scope of Diy Diabetes in Schools Program ". Material and Method: Our study is a cross-sectional study with descriptive features in order to measure the level of diabetes knowledge before and after diabetes education of middle school 7th grade and 10th grade students in Adıyaman city center. Our study was conducted on 344 middle school 7th grade and high school 10th grade students. "Diabetes Program in Schools" is an educational program conducted throughout Turkey. Diabetes information score; The answers of the students to the questions about diabetes were obtained by scoring. Minimum zero (0) and maximum 100 points can be obtained from this form. Shapiro Wilk normality test was used to determine whether the data were suitable for normal distribution and age, diabetes information score did not match the normal distribution (p <0.05). For this reason, Mc Nemar test was used in qualitative data (know-not, yes-no, etc.) in paired samples and two Wilcoxon paired sample tests were used in measurable data (total score). In all evaluations, p <0.05 was considered significant. Results: There was a significant increase in the knowledge scores of the participants after the training. While female students 'knowledge scores did not show significant difference with male students before education, female students' knowledge scores increased more than male students at the end of education. 48.7% of the students who participated in the study had at least one diabetes among their relatives. When students were asked where they learned diabetes; the first place is the family answer. Conclusion: Our research shows that the trainings to prevent the negative effects of ever-increasing diabetes are effective and contribute to the increase of students' knowledge level. Education activities under the Diabetes Program in schools should continue. Key Words: Diabetes, Diabetes in Schools Program, health.
