The Evaluation of the books for preschool children in relation with language development and semantics

ABSTRACT0-6 age period which is named key years is a long process. In theseperiod children get basic accomplishments about language development nearbiological development.In this thesis; books for 5-6 years old children are investigated inrelation to semantics and their effect on language development is evaluated.To determine the necessary semantics and linguistic characteristics ofchildren?s books which support language development of early childhoodchildren is the main aim of this study.Universal language development of children in early years isinvestigated with the help of different philosopher?s classification.In the examination of semantics; first of all mean fact and theoreticalknowledge is determined and depending on this theoretical knowledgechildren books are evaluated due to semantic appropriateness.For this study 30 different children?s books for 5-6 years old wereselected randomly. These books were investigated in relation with generallanguage development and semantics, formal and content characteristics thatthese books should carry were discussed.With the help of theoretical knowledge all of the books were evaluated.And it was determined that, in preparing children books authors pay attentionmostly to matter and manner characteristics of books.In conclusion, it can be said that; well qualified books must be publishedfor children which support language development and semantics in earlychildhood years.Key words: language development, semantics, evaluating of children?sbooks
