İnvestigations of preschool education teachers democratic resolutions and attitudes regarding children rights

Children become aware of their rights when necessary conditions are met and can use it for the benefit of society. At the beginning of these conditions is the training of teachers who know and practice children's rights. First of all, teachers should prepare a suitable environment for the child and be a role model for the children. A teacher who respects democratic values should know children's rights, include these rights in their education programs, act by considering them, and see and practice rights as an important value in their own lives. Research was conducted to examine the democratic determination of preschool teachers and their attitudes towards children's rights. 230 kindergarten teachers working in Sakarya province and its districts were included in the study on a voluntary basis, in which the quantitative method was used. In order to determine the attitudes of preschool teachers towards children's rights, the Attitude towards Children's Rights scale developed by Karaman-Kepenekçi (2006) and the Yeşil (2010) Teacher Behavior Determination Scale were used. Data analysis was done with SPSS 24.0. Parametric test techniques were used in the study due to the normal distribution of the scores. The t-test and ANOVA test were used to analyze the variation of the scale score according to demographic characteristics. As a result of the research, it was determined that preschool teachers' attitudes towards children's rights were lganhigh and their democratic determination scores were positive. It has been determined that the attitudes of kindergarten teachers towards children's rights, such as age, professional experience and the place of work they work, are not effective. In addition, surprisingly, the educational background of preschool teachers is not effective on attitudes; It has been observed that the attitudes towards children's rights are similar according to the teachers who graduated from the faculty of education undergraduate, faculty of science and literature or formation, and the teachers who marked the college and other option.
