The efficiency of reading circle on affective qualities of reading

The purpose of this research is to determine whether the method of Reading Circle has efficiency on the effective qualities of reading (attitude, self-efficiency, anxiety and motivation). In this research, pretest posttest quasi-experimental design with control group was used. 58 students, studying at a secondary school in Gaziantep, Turkey, joined there search; 28 of these students were in control group and 30 of them were in experimental group. While gaining the data, the scales of "Reading Attitude","Reader's Self-efficiency", "Reading Anxiety of Elementary and Secondary School Students" and "Reading Motivation" were applied. The books that were determined during reading period were read by using the method of Reading Circle in experimental group; and by not using any mathod in control group. While analyzing the data, Mann Whitney-U, t-test, Wilcoxon Signed Lines and ANCOVA test were used. One of the results gained by the research was that the Reading Circle method made no difference between experimental group and control group in terms of reading anxiety. Another result gained by the research was that the Reading Circle method made a considerable difference between experimental group and control group in terms of reading motivation. The other result gained by the research was that the Reading Circle method did not make a considerable difference between experimental group and control group in terms of reading self-efficiency. Another result gained by the research was that the Reading Circle method made a considerable difference between experimental group and control group in terms of reading attitude. According to the results gained by the research; while the method of Reading Circle has positive impact on reading motivations and reading attitudes of students, no considerable difference occured in their reading anxiety and reading self-efficiency.
