Abstract (EN)
This study explores the effect of contextual clues on incidental vocabulary acquisition during reading. The vocabulary growth of the learners has been researched and analyzed. Guessing the meaning of unknown words during reading, using them and their retention which comprise the steps of incidental vocabulary acquisition have been measured and evaluated by the pre-tests and post-tests of reading. Among the 360 students who study at Kuleli Military High School in the second semester, 86 students were chosen as the target group. The selected students were between 14 and 15 years of age and achieved vocabulary growth to a certain extent during the year. In this study of incidental vocabulary acquisition, a booklet which may help students learn words easily, 10 pre-tests, 10 reading texts and 60 post-test containing 486 test items were prepared. a
