ABSTRACTMSc THESISSYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF NEW TYPE OLIGOMER SCHIFFBASES BASED ON OLIGOPHENOLSDEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRYINSTITUE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCESUNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVAJury: Prof. Dr. Selahattin SER NProf. Dr. Osman SER NDAYrd. Doç. Dr. Mehmet TUNÇELIn this study, new type of Schiff base compounds derivated fromsalicylaldehyde and amine derivates were polimerized with the oxidativepolycondensation method. The metal complexes of new compounds having ligandcharacteristic were synthesized with the heavy metals. The structure of newcompounds were determined by the instrumental and analytic methods. We expectthat the synthesized compounds will have dye characteristics since they includeimine chromophore groups. The thermal stability of new compounds were examinedby thermogravimetric analysis. We propose that the synthesized ligand will be usedin extracting of metals from the industrial waste water giving harm to theenvironment because of it?s heavy metal ions. Keywords: Oligomer Schiff bases, Metal complexes, Oligophenols.II
