Abstract (EN)

This research aimed to examine the value systems and priorities of the athletes, who are likely to participate in the Olympic games, and are located in the Olympic centers, which were established to train athletes for the Olympic Games, with the views of the athletes and coaches. The universe of the research; Athletes and coaches from different Olympic branches, who continue their preparations with the aim of Olympic games, have formed within the body of the Olympic centers. In the research, "explanatory sequential design", one of the mixed method research designs, was used. The sample in the quantitative part of the research; 409 athletes working in different Olympic branches within the Olympic centers and reached by simple random sampling method, and the sample in the qualitative part consisted of 15 trainers working in the Olympic centers. Developed by Lee, Whitehead and Balchin in the quantitative dimension of the research in order to determine the value priorities of the athletes. Gurpinar et al. (2018) Likert type "Values in Infrastructure Sports", adapted to Turkish and validated and reliable. Developed by Lee, Whitehead, Ntoumanis, and Hatzigeorgiadis in order to determine the value groupings of Olympic athletes with multi-item scales. Gürpınar et al. (2019) was adapted into Turkish, and the Likert-type "Values in Infrastructure Sports-II" form was used. While evaluating the quantitative findings of the research, licensed SPSS 25.0 package program was used for statistical analysis. Frequency and percentage distributions were used to determine the demographic information and value systems of the athletes in different Olympic branches, and mean and standard deviation statistics were used in the analysis of the scales. Kurtosis and skewness values were examined to determine whether the research variables showed a normal distribution, and t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Post-Hoc analyzes were used to determine the differences in the scales according to the descriptive characteristics of the athletes. Content analysis was used while evaluating the qualitative findings of the research. Online one-on-one interviews were conducted with the trainers at the Olympic centers and the participants were informed about the research. The licensed MAXQDA 2020 program was used in the evaluation of the qualitative findings obtained from the interview form. According to the quantitative findings obtained from the research, it has been seen that sportsmanship and winning values have the highest priority for the athletes in the Olympic centers. In addition, in terms of value groupings, it has been determined that the athletes care the most about the competency values. Looking at the qualitative findings of the study, it was seen that the values that the athletes in the Olympic centers attach the most importance to when doing sports are sportsmanship, tolerance and winning. It has been concluded that the values that the Olympic athletes in the research give the most importance while doing sports are to exhibit good sportsmanship and to win. When the value groupings of the athletes are examined, it is seen that they give more importance to competence values than moral values and status values.
