The relationship between death anxiety, life satisfaction and fear of COVID-19

Özet (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between death anxiety, life satisfaction and fear of Covid-19; and whether the fear of death caused by COVID-19 directly or indirectly affects life satisfaction. The sample group of the study consists of a total of 233 adults, 86 women and 147 men from Turkey, having or not had the Covid-19 infection in 2021. These members of the study were included in the study group with an easily accessible online sampling method. "Personal Information Form", "Death Anxiety Scale", "Satisfaction with Life Scale" and "Covid-19 Fear Scale" were used to collect the data of the study.To analyze the data, IBM SPSS 25 program was used in in the study. The comparison between groups according to the scales was investigated with the ANOVA test in cases where the assumption of normality was met. In addition, independent groups were investigated with the t test. Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to examine the correlation between scales. Multivariate regression analysis was applied. Process plugin was used in IBM SPSS 25 to perform the mediation analysis. According to the findings obtained from the study, a significant difference was found only between death anxiety and fear of Covid-19 in the relationship between death anxiety, life satisfaction and fear of Covid-19 (p<0.001). Findings showed that there is a positive and moderate relationship between fear of Covid-19 and death anxiety. When the effect of fear of Covid 19 on life satisfaction of death anxiety was examined, it was found that fear of Covid 19 did not have a mediating effect on the effect of death anxiety on life satisfaction.Also, it was examined whether the scales showed significant differences according to demographic variables; It was found that death anxiety differs significantly according to gender and age groups, life satisfaction differs significantly according to gender, age groups, marital status and education level, and fear of Covid-19 differs significantly according to gender and covid status. The findings were discussed and evaluated in the research. Suggestions were made regarding the studies to be done on death anxiety, life satisfaction and fear of Covid-19.
