Abstract (EN)

The subject of the thesis is to evaluate the episkopeion (bishop palace) with all its units, located in Olympos Ancient City.The Episcopal Church, in the schema with transept, stands as the central structure within the rectangular-planned episkopeion. A three-naved baptistery is to be found in the north of the church whereas additional structures which are in the shape of a rectangular and trikonkhos plans lie to the south. The church, baptistery and the additional structures constitute the religious buildings of the complex. Attached organically to each other, peristyl and triclinium are to be found in the west part of the complex while a bishop residence which is made up of several conjoined structures surrounding the courtyard lies to the east side. Apart from these massive structures inside the episkopeion, there are several others found to have been designed as two-storey units. Along with the religious structures, administrative units and private residences are also to be found in the complex. Within the study, suggestions have been proposed to enhance the function of these structures, in the light of the data collected from the design and other architectural features. Within the scope of the research, the whole structure has been studied with the help of the layout design, the landscaping, material-technique, ornaments, liturgical and architectural sculptures and other findings. It turns out that Episkopeion dated to the 5tth -6th centuries. Keywords: Olympos, Episkopeion, Late Antiquity, Lycia, Byzantine.
