Abstract (EN)

Sudan, which gained its independence from United Kingdom in 1956, is one of the critical countries of Africa with its geopolitical characteristics and socio-cultural structure. Sudan is also an important country for Türkiye in terms of both historical-cultural ties and the deepening Türkiye-Africa partnership that has deepened in the last 20 years. Omar al-Bashir, who came to power in this country in a military coup in 1989, has been one of the longest-reigning leaders of the African continent for 30 years, until his fall from power in 2019. The Omar al-Bashir regime, which had to deal with internationalized problems such as the South Sudan problem, the Nile problem, and the Darfur problem, was subjected to international sanctions due to the foreign policy moves that were perceived as radical by the Western world and the alleged genocide in Darfur. In this study, Sudanese foreign policy in the period of Omar al-Bashir was analyzed in the context of the aforementioned problems and sanctions. This study analyzes Sudanese foreign policy during the Omar al-Bashir era in the context of these problems and sanctions. It examines which issues were prominent in Sudan's relations with its neighbors as well as regional and global powers. Keywords: Africa, Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, foreign policy, international relations
