Due to the fact that the distribution of its lignite researches of various geographical districts, the social-economical and cultural development of Turkey are positively enhanced. In addition to being a cheap raw material for electrical energy production and adding value to the wealth of country, lignite researches are the main sources for fossil fuels. But, it is required for both open pit and underground mine operations to be performed and transported efficiently and safely. Especially, for underground mines, water inflows seriously affect mine productivity and disturb mine operations. Therefore, mine dewatering operations have to be designed and carried out before mining operations commences. The most effect the way for eliminating water drainage problems is to schedule hydro-geological tests at mine planning stage. For this purpose, the underground water level, the elevation for mine operations and the hydrogeological and geological characteristics of mine site should be investigated in detail. In this study, the mine drainage operations at G.L.I. Ömerler underground coal mine are investigated. For this purpose, the main contributing factors for mine drainage such as the amount of water inflow drained, the coal production rate, electrical and mechanical equipment failure rates are explained and determined. A total of 10 water drainage pump wells with a length of 4000 meters are prepared to prevent water problems on mining panels. It is absorbed that the rate of water inflows into panels are reduced significantly both by surface and underground measurements. It is also determined that mine water drainage rates are reduced by 27% and 40% for underground mine and overall, respectively.
