Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to evaluate kinesiophobia and sleep quality in patients who underwent shoulder arthroscopy before surgery and after surgery + physical therapy. The study included 120 patients aged between 45 and 80 years who had the following diagnoses: rotator cuff tear, superior labrum anterior-posterior (SLAP) lesion, and subacromial impingement syndrome (SSS) and underwent shoulder arthroscopy for these reasons. Information such as age, gender, occupation, education status, pain duration, and presence of chronic disease were recorded using a data recording form for patients who gave their consent to participate in the study. Pain severity was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), kinesiophobia levels using the Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale (TKS), and sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Patients who underwent shoulder arthroscopy received 2 weeks of conventional physiotherapy and rehabilitation one month after the operation. Pain severity, kinesiophobia, and sleep quality were re-evaluated 3 months after arthroscopy. After surgery + physical therapy, a statistically significant improvement was found in the pain intensity, kinesiophobia levels and sleep quality scores of the patients compared to the pre-surgery level (p<0,001). In addition, a positive significant relationship was found between the pain intensity and sleep quality scores before surgery (p<0,001), while a negative relationship was found between the duration of pain before surgery and sleep quality scores. As a result of this study, it was determined that surgical intervention and post-surgery rehabilitation process reduced fear of movement and improved sleep disorders in individuals who had the three diagnoses of rotator cuff tear, SLAP lesion and SSS and underwent shoulder arthroscopy (p<0,001).
