Abstract (EN)

THE EFFECT OF JACKET AREA ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF REPAIRED/STRENGHTHENED REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMNS M.Sc. Thesis Yağmur KOPRAMAN GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY January, 2003 ABSTRACT Jacketing is the most popular method in the rehabilitation of the rainforced concrete columns under axial loading. Not only in Turkey, but also in the other tecnologically developed countries, this repairment/strenghthening tecnique is wide spread used. In this study, the effectiveness of this method is investigated by experimantally testing of two parameters. Namely, column section geometry and jacket thickness. The specimens was enlarged by four sides to understand how jacket layer thickness rules on the behaviour on the column. By using experimental data, load vs. unit deformation curves are plotted for each of the specimens. Thus, the parameters, strength, rigidity, ductility and energy absorbtion capacity, which determines the behaviour of the reinforced column is interpreted. At the end of this study, the effect of the parameters column section geometry and jacket area on the jacketing method is stated, and valueable foreground data is maintened for further experimental studies.
