Abstract (EN)
In this study, important principle viola solos, which are frequently encountered in viola tutti and principal viola auditions for symphony and opera orchestras, will be analysed. These solos going to be reviewed under two separate sections classifies as "opera" and "ballet". Information about the short history of opera and ballet, the life of the composers of the pieces, the performance practise of the mentions works and their subjects will be presented. Practising styles of solos have been examined in terms of musical and technical aspects depending on the subject of the opera, musical emotions and expressions. Suggestions have been presented in the study which are aimed to help the readers. The purpose of the choosen principle viola solos has been selected according to their frequently asked audition pieces by orchestral entrence exams and they are aimed to increase the success rate of candidates preparing for exams. Also, this thesis will contribute to the performances of viola players who are already serving as a principle viola in opera and ballet orchestras.
