Abstract (EN)

Objective: Due to the low long-term survival rates of lung cancer, there is a need for novel methods of early diagnosis and treatment. Recently, semi-quantitative 18F-FDG PET and neutrophil / lymphocyte (NLR) ratio are also new parameters used to predict prognosis. These have been identified as independent and easy-to-use prognostic markers associated with low survival rates in lung cancer and many types of cancer. Therefore, in this study we conducted, we investigated the prognostic value of the use of pre-operative neutrophil/lymphocyte (NLR) ratio and SUVmax, which is a parameter of PET/CT, in order to better predict survival outcomes and provide accurate and reliable clues. Materials and Methods: 244 patients who were operated for NSCLC in our clinic between 2010 and 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. The correlation of NLR, SUVmax and NLR-SUVmax correlation, with survival rates depending on age, gender, surgical approach, histopathological subtype and stage variables were evaluated. Spearman correlation coefficient test was used for correlation and Kaplan – Meier method was used for survival analysis. Cox Regression analysis was used for multivariate analysis of survival. Results: It was determined that the values below and above the cut-off value (2.235) determined for NLR had a statistically significant relationship with age, gender, surgical approach, histopathological subtype, stage, T score and N score. A statistically significant relationship was found between the values below and above the cut-off value (12.3) determined for SUVmax with age, gender, surgical approach, histopathological subtype, stage, T score, and N score. Conclusion: We think that during the routine clinical and preoperative evaluation of patients with NSCLC, examining the NLR and SUVmax values and NLR-SUVmax correlation will be a guide in determining the prognosis of the disease, predicting survival times and treatment planning.
