The technical investigations of Prof. Dr. A Suheyl Unver's illumination samples from 1920-1986

Within this research, the life of A. Süheyl ÜNVER, his works, his collections and a selection of examples of his works on design, taken from his notebooks, are taken into account. During the analysis and inspection; estampage done on design examples contained within Ünver's own notebooks are seen to have been done with symmetric, continuous or within free compositions arranged with rumi, cloud and hatai groups of motifs. In the application of these designs, aside from the heavy usage of charcoal, gold, watercolors, colored pencils and paint can also be observed. During the work done within the borders of this thesis, a selection of notebooks belonging to Süheyl UNVER are taken from those that weren't yet unearthed. The chosen notebooks are predominantly limited to those named as "kırkanbar" and several notebooks that contain Unver's design examples. In this context, the imprint details of the notebooks and the other factors that are contained within them and the various design examples are examined with the composition technique. The notebooks that were inspected are chosen from Ünver's own collection contained within the Süleymaniye Written Works Library and ones from his daughter, Gülbün MESARA's own collection.
