Historical monuments in the center of Ordu/Mesudiye

This study aims to reveal the cultural structure of the region by documenting the architectural features of historical buildings located in the Central Neighbourhood of Mesudiye District, Ordu Province. Within the scope of the research, tombstones, religious structures, residential architecture and administrative buildings were evaluated from both physical and functional perspectives. Through field measurements, documentation, photography and observation, the plan types, material characteristics, façade arrangements and decorations of the structures were identified. The structures examined in this study are buildings that predominantly feature architectural characteristics of the late Ottoman and early Republican periods of the 19th and 20th centuries. An examination of the residences located in the district centre of Mesudiye reveals that the structures were generally constructed using the bagdadi and masonry construction systems. The guillotine windows, stone fireplaces, built-in wooden cupboards, and benches under the windows in the residential buildings are notable elements of the traditional residential architecture in the region. The gravestones were examined and evaluated in terms of their literary, religious, and physical characteristics. The administrative building and church in the district centre of Mesudiye were examined and evaluated in comparison with similar structures in neighbouring provinces in terms of their architectural features, floor plans, and decorative elements. The study aims to contribute to the preservation, documentation and transfer of the historical heritage of Mesudiye Central District to future generations. Thanks to this study, the traditional architectural fabric of the region has become more visible.
