Economic comparasion of organic and conventional farming in green papper cultivation

In this research, the production of green pepper in the field in Bursa was discussed and organic and conventional green pepper production were compared economically. The data of the research obtained from the all producers by simple random sampling method are analyzed by face to face survey method. The results of the research revealed that organic and conventional green pepper producers have similar costs. The total cost including fertilizer, seedling, rent and labor which are the main expenses in the production of organic green pepper is 3381,7 TL. In conventional green pepper production, total cost including agrochemical, fertilizer, seedling, rent, labor was calculated as 3794,7 TL. In Bursa, the average annual yield in organic green pepper production was 1850 kg per decare. This amount was 3150 kg per decare in conventional green pepper production. Since 2018, the average price of organic green pepper from the producer is 2,90TL. This amount is calculated as 1.60 TL for conventional green pepper producers. In this case, the profit obtained by the producers producing conventional green pepper per decare is calculated as 1245,2 TL. In organic green pepper production, net profit per decare was found to be 1983,3 TL. Within the scope of the research, SWOT analysis was carried out for both organic and conventional green pepper production. While short shelf life and limited market share in organic green pepper production are weak; healthy generations and high product price are strengths. Agrochemicals used in the production of conventional green pepper weaknesses; continuity and high efficiency are the strengths.
