Organized industrial zones and effects on urbanization (case study: Manisa organized industrial zone)

ABSTRACT The role of Organized Industrial Zones for the systematic develeopment of urbanization, is the most important subject studied in this thesis. The subject is searched not only for the relation of Organized Industrial Zones and urbanization. But Organized Industrial Zones are widely studied. Firstly, industrialization and urbanization concepts and their interrelations are examined. Industrial activities may cause urbanization. Humans may immigrate to the industrialized areas, so that urbanization rate may increase in industrialized areas. This relation is examined both for World and Turkey. In order to express the relation between Organized Industrial Zones and urbanization, these subjects are analyzed in the beginning. The subject of Organized Industrial Zones is introduced theoritically, then the explanations about the importance and the development of Organized Industrail Zones in Turkey are given. Laws and regulations for the Organized Industrail Zones are examined. In addition the non-uniformity between different regions of Turkey is analyzed with the parameters of population, urban-rural population, GSYİH, GSYİH per man and public investments. The difference of welfare between the west and east of Turkey is analyzed and then possible solutions to this problem both in the developed and developing countries with the help of Organized Industrial Zones are discussed. This study ends with the analysis of current situation of Organized Industrial Zones in Turkey. The proposals for the solutions of the current problems of Organized Industrail Zones and the administrative model are given in the result. VI
