A study of the assessment of the stress level on the survivors caused by downsizing strategy

Nowadays, organizations tend to various strategies for downsizing with the aim of both to improve the negative results of performance rank and to improve the breakdown on the organizational structure and functioning and also to meet the speed, flexibility and dynamism of the time. In recent years, it is accepted that the growing downsizing strategy has facilitated the rapid advancement and rapid decision and has also increased the ability to adapt rapidly to the changing environment.Depending on the advancements, one of the most considerable problems is the stress. Stress has now become a part of all of the people. Stress is a power which causes recession, sorrow and collapse for an individual. Besides, stress causes supression and deterioration. The stress of the employees would affect both the individual and the organization in a negative way by influencing the job.After downsizing, the most fundamental reason for not being able to reach at the aimed target for organizations is not to give enough importance to the human factor in the process of downsizing. The application of dismissal conducted by downsizing strategy is an important source of stress. It is known that this application creates a great deal of stress upon the survivors of the dismissal. This situation is able to cause negative results on both the organizational structure and functioning and on the total performance by causing discomfort in the job environment, tension, and loss of motivation.The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of stress on the survivors caused by downsizing strategy and to present some solutions to the problems occured during this process in order to reduce the problems to the minimal.Key Words: Downsizing, Stress, Organization, Survivors.
