Determining of sedimentation from forest roads by universal soil loss equation (Kastamonu /Arac region)

This study was carried out aiming to determine the actual amount of sedimentation originating from forest roads in different slope groups in Kastamonu-Arac Region with the comparison by using "International Soil Loss Equation" (USLE). In accordance with this purpose, sediment traps have been established in the forest roads and sediment amounts accumulated in the traps has been calculated repetitively (two years). Within this respect, by comparing actual sedimentation amounts calculated with USLE sedimentation values, suitability of USLE model determined for the study area. Within the scope of the study, actual sedimentation amounts have been calculated 10 units for each slope group in total 40 units (2-4% soil forest road, 4-6% soil forest road, 6-8% soil forest road, 8-12% stabilized forest road), and for the control area, 1 of each strand and a total of 4 sediment traps were installed and evaluated. As a result of the study, the actual sedimentation rates and USLE values for the slope groups are calculated as 2,1 t ha-1, 6,26 t ha-1 in 2-4% soil forest road, 2,48 t ha-1, 19,45 t ha-1 for the 4-6% soil forest road, 5,57 t ha-1, 38,56 t ha-1 for the 6-8% soil forest road, 2,52 t ha-1, 30,18 t ha-1 for the, 8-12% stabilized forest road in the first year. For the second year, the values are calculated as 2,89 t ha-1, 7,39 t ha-1 in 2-4% soil forest road, 5,24 t ha-1, 22,96 t ha-1 for the 4-6% soil forest road, 7,58 t ha-1, 45,53 t ha-1 for the 6-8% soil forest road, 3,42 t ha-1, 35,63 t ha-1 for the, 8-12% stabilized forest road. As a result of all the evaluations, it was observed that USLE, which is the erosion estimation method, did not perform well in the forest roads in these slope groups in the study area.
