Effects of knitted fabric reinforcements on impact performance of composites

Abstract (EN)

The use of composite materials for various applications is increasing day by day thanks to their high performance and significant advantages compared to its dimensions and weight-lightness. The use of textile materials as reinforcements in the composites provides properties such as strength and higher impact depending on the textile structure and fiber type used. The use of high performance fibers such as aramid in composites has become widespread and their advantages have been proven. There are studies on the enhancement of the impact performances of the composties provided by the knitted fabrics as reinforcement and studies on the effect of inlay yarns, which stay stright in the knitted fabric, on the strength of the composites are still continuing. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of inlay yarns, which stay straight among the loops of the knitted reinforcement fabric, on the impact performances of the composites reinforced with the knitted fabric. With this aim, composites are obtained using knitted fabrics manufactured from Aramid filament yarns on v ben knitting machine with two different structures (rib and inlaid rib) and impact, compression after impact and bending performances of these composites are analyzed. The effect of inlay yarn and stacking sequence on the impact performances of the composites are determined.
