Abstract (EN)

This thesis study was carried out in order to reveal the sequence stratigraphy and the associated sea level changes of the Middle Eocene-Oligocene aged Kırkgeçit Formation, which outcrops in a large area in the Eastern Anatolia Region, in the north of Elazığ city center. In the study area, the unit unconformably overlies the Elazığ Magmatites (Senonian) at the base, and is unconformably overlain by the Harput Volcanics (Quvaterner) and Palu Formation (Quvaterner). A measured stratigraphic section of 838 m was taken from the base of the unit to the probable top, and sea level changes and sedimentation environment were determined in the light of the sedimentological data in this section. Based on various sedimentary structures and lithology, it was determined that the sediments of the unit in this area were deposited in shallow water (shelf)-transition (coastline, wave base, tidal flat) environments. In this study, in which lithology-based sequence stratigraphy was applied for the first time on the Kırkgeçit Formation, second, third and fourth degree sea level changes were obtained by using the age range obtained in detail based on paleontology in the previous works for the study area within the scope of this thesis. Interpretation of these changes revealed that the sea level rose during the Middle Eocene between the Early Lutetian (47.8 my) and the Late Priabonian (33.9 my).
