Breeding of naturally grown hawtorn ( Crataegus spp ) genotypes in Middle Kelkit Valley via selection

This study was aimed to select in terms of quality and yield naturally grown Hawthorns in Mid Kelkit Basin. Mid Kelkit Basin that consisting of Ordu province Mesudiye county, Sivas province Koyulhisar and Suşehri counties and Giresun province Alucra, Şebinkarahisar counties. 58 Hawthorn trees were found respect to fruit size. First year mid Kelkit basin were scanned, collected fruit and leaf specimens. Totally 58 genotypes of hawthorn species were analiysed, and it has been selected 21 superior genotypes. Second year, it was being determined that 21 superior genotypes has been researched about totally sugar and ascorbic acid contents. It was found by according to estimate for two years tests, between fruit weights are 1.48-7.67 gr, fruit flesh weigts are 2.00-5.00 gr, fleh/seed rates are % 75.74-89.21, fruit lenghts are 12.62-20.70 mm, fruits widths are 15.55-27.69 mm, seeds weights are 0.26-1.06 g, total soluble solid content values are (TSSC) % 11.75-20.00, pH values are 3.59-4.36, titrable acidity values are % 0.27-1.50.
