Özet (EN)

Democratization in the EU literature particularly came to invoke reconfiguration of political, economic and subsequently social structure of a non-European (or would-be-European) society through importation and implementation of liberalizing reforms under the firm aegis of the Union. This study purports to unfold the dynamics of the involved process by shedding light to pros and cons of its liberalizing strategies of the European Neighborhood Policy and the extent of their adaptability in the societies, like those in the Middle East, with entirely different socio-political culture. The other aim of the study is to highlight the works of students of international relations who see a tacit imperialistic design in the EU-led Europeanization process, and who emphasizes that despite the disagreement, the American and European strategies regarding (re)socializing the Middle East are essentially similar. In this vein, this study tries to point out the changing perception in regard with the prospect of democratization in the Middle East, that has a serious potential to resemble the idealistic European policies to those of the US.
