Application areas of the amendments made within the field of common foreign and security policy in post-Lisbon era

Treaty of Lisbon, which entered into force on the 1st of December 2009, is also called the reform treaty. While including quite many changes for the institutional structure of the European Union, it also covers structural amendments within Common Foreign and Security Policy. This study aims to find an answer to the question: to what extent the Lisbon amendments have been implemented in practice. Especially the foreign policy conducted by EU within the process of the Arab Spring, breaking out at the beginning of 2011 and spilling all over the Middle East, gives significant implications for the level of implementation and success of the mentioned amendments. Focusing on the Arab Spring, the new structure of EU?s Common Foreign and Security Policy has been analyzed article by article. Literature review has been conducted for EU Common Foreign and Security Policy. Also, reports published and press archives have been utilized in order to track the developments. At the end of the study, the extent of analogy between the Lisbon?s institutional amendments and their practices within the field of Common Foreign and Security Policy has been evaluated.
