The reansons of students doing athletics in secondary scholl of tending athletics and theis expectations

The general purpose of this research is to determine the reasons of Turkish students interested in athletics why they choose this sport and their expectations. With this aim, some necessary information was given by reviewing of some literatures related with this subject. Also, a questionnaire was applied to student-athletes to find some solutions for the problem of this search. The population of the study involved the student-athletes having licence. However; since the numbers of these sportsman is too much, it couldn?t be reached to all of them. Therefore, the sample groups were used. In order to this, the students, having licence in the secondary schools, were randomly chosen. As statistical analysis in evaluation at opinions of the student-athletes, frequency, percentage of data, t-test and Anova tests were done by SPSS statistical program. In conclusion, the people orienting the students to the athletics mostly is the physical education teachers. One of the outcomes of this research is that mass media does not give enough support to the athletics. The majority of the students doing athletics have the same reasons; deriving pleasure from success, being interested in athletics and being populer among their friends. Lastly, the most important expectations of the student-athletes are being a physical education teacher, being a student in the sports departmant of a university, being a national athlete and represent our country.
