Investigation on relation between secondry education achievement criterion and points of student selection examination

SUMMARY In this study, the relationship between students' success in secondary level and their marks in ÖSS (University Selection Examination) was investigated. In order to do this, first of all the relationship between students' graduation marks and their marks in ÖSS was looked. Later on, the effect of difference in subjects studied at secondary level on ÖSS was investigated, and then the effect of weekly course content on the questions asked in tests and sub-tests in ÖSS was looked. Finally, ten students who graduated from science department of participating schools were selected. Their success science courses and their success in Science Test in ÖSS was compared. In this research, sample was selected from schools in Erzurum city center such as Ibrahim Hakkı Fen Lisesi, Erzurum Anadolu Lisesi, Erzurum Lisesi and Erzurum Cumhuriyet Lisesi. Students' graduation marks were obtained from their schools where they graduated in 1999-2000 and data was analyzed by using different statistical tests such as ANOVA, Duncan Test, correlation, standard deviation and results were discussed. The results suggest that there is a statistically meaningful relationship between secondary level success measures and marks gained in ÖSS.
