Evaluation of secondary education geography lesson in terms of developing national conciousness

In the study that the efficiency of secondary education geography lesson has been evaluated within the context of developing national consciousness for students, the universe has been taken as the secondary education schools (high schools) in Turkey and the sample has been composed of 537 students in eight secondary education schools placed in different regions of Turkey.A survey which has been assumed to be tested the level of national consciousness has been applied to the students, and data obtained from this survey have been stated as frequency distribution and percent. In addition, comparisons have been made related to the different views of students for national consciousness taking into account of gender, type of school and study field, level of grade.The fact that there is no difference between the determined groups has been controlled by single factor variance analysis. The significance level of the study has been accepted as 0.05.As a result of the research, the following findings have been obtained:1-The students in secondary education schools generally could not have developed a physical background for national consciousness.2-They are not conscious of geopolitical position of our country adequately.3-Globalism cannot make analysis of nation-state interaction sufficiently.4-They cannot associate subjects such as usage of natural resources, environmental consciousness, recycling products, population, and brain drain, forests, mines with national consciousness.At the end of the study, suggestions which have been introduced by the researcher based on the problems arose have been taken place.Keywords: Nation, National consciousness, Geopolitical, Geographical consciousness
