Comparing the method of explaining and question-answer, at high school 2th grade level for teaching the plants of Turkey concepts

tu SUMMARY This research consists of four main part. These are; Introduction, Method, Finding and Interpretation, and Result and Suggestions. The aim of the research is to find out whether the method of direct explanation is more effective than question-answer or vice versa on the achievements of high school second grade students. These methods are applied in teaching the basic concepts of the subject of "The Plants of Turkey" included in "Physical Geography of Turkey". The population of the research consists of high school second grade students in Altındağ township in Ankara. The sample of the research is randomly selected from the second grade classes in each school. The research test of "The Plants of Turkey" chapter was administered as a pre-test before teaching "The Plants of Turkey" chapter by using both teaching methods. Question-answer method is applied to the experimental group and direct explaining method is applied to the control group. Then pre-test is applied as a post-test. Pre-test and post-test score of groups was calculated by One-Way ANOVA for Repeated Measures Test. Result of this research, at high school 2th grade level for teaching "The Plants of Turkey" concepts, the question-answer method which is applied to experimental group is more effective and productive than direct explaining method which is applied to control group for student achievement.
