The expression problems in grade 2 students of secondary school and various recommendations for recovery of them

This study conducted to fix the written expressing skills of the grade 2 students of secondary school and to identify the rate of expressing problems was realized in 10th class section of 5 selected secondary schools in Ankara in 2006-2007 Academic Year.The written expressing papers of 228 students constituting the sampling of the study were evaluated in respect to the determined 20 sub-problem. The Scale to discover the reasons behind expressing problems and interview forms were applied to the Turkish Language and Literature Teachers teaching the students having problems in written expression.According to the results of the study, the mostly seen expression problems are use of unnecessary vocabulary (33%), errors arising from structural mistakes (29%) and disagreement of sentence components.(%24)The least seen expression problems are comparison or sequencing errors (0,43%), supplementary-verb missing 0,87%) and use of conflicting vocabulary in the same expression (1,31%).General average of the expressing problems based on comprehension is 10,25% and general average of the expression problems related to grammar knowledge is 10,91%.According to the findings, the written expression skills of the students falling within our study field is not at adequate level. A student of grade two in Secondary school should have gained the skill of self-expressing easily, properly and correctly.
