Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to investigate the values in English YYC coursebooks which were prepared for secondary school students by the National Ministry of Education. It is aimed to find whether these values correspond to the value list that is prepared according to Schwartz (2012) and Rokeach's (1973) universal value list and the values that are present in secondary education English curriculum. In the study, document survey method, which is among qualitative research methods, was used. Content analysis was used for the analysis of the findings. According to the findings, there are 19 different kinds of values in secondary level English coursebooks. The values found in the coursebooks were determined in terms of their frequency and percentages. Love, kindness, esthetics and helpfulness were determined as the most frequent values. Equality, honesty, tolerance and freedom are determined as the least frequent values in English coursebooks. Achievement, social recognition, creativeness, peace, bravery, obedience, national security and independence are not included in the coursebooks though they are present in universal values list. There are values which are present in coursebooks, but they are not present in the universal values list. These are tolerance, hospitality, sharing and being healthy.
