Investigation of the relationship between free time satisfaction and social physical anxiety levels of karate athletes in secondary education

This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between free time satisfaction and social physical anxiety levels of karate athletes in secondary education. In this research, a descriptive method was used to reveal the current situation. The leisure time satisfaction and physical anxiety levels of the participants were determined. Gender, class, age, status of participation in competitions, participation in sports activities, national or international success, duration of sports, frequency of participation in free time activities, educational status of their fathers, educational status of their mothers, working status of their fathers, working status of their mothers and income status of their families The variables of free time satisfaction and social physical anxiety levels were evaluated by various statistical procedures. The population of the study was composed of karate athletes who were educated in secondary education in the 2018-2019 academic year. The sample of the study consisted of 260 [n (male) = 114, n (female) = 146] students selected by random sampling method among these students. The "Personal Information Form en developed by the researcher as data collection tools in the research, the short form, developed by Jacob G. Beard and Mounir G. Ragheb (1980), was used by Idyll Arbor, Inc. in 2002 instead of the long form. Leisure Leisure Satisfaction Scale (LSS) Gök, adapted to Turkish by Gökçe et al. (2008), is the first validity and reliability study of the original scale developed by Hart, Leary and Rejeski (1989) for the Turkish population. In the analysis of the data, frequency and percentage distributions describing the personal characteristics of the participants were extracted, arithmetic means and standard deviations of the responses to the scales were calculated and free time satisfaction and social physical anxiety levels were calculated. distributions were determined. One Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test showed that the data did not show normal distribution. Therefore, non-parametric analyzes were used. The Mann Whitney U test was used to compare the scores of the athletes according to their gender, participation in competitions, their fathers and mothers according to their working status. Kruskal Wallis H test was used to compare the scale scores according to educational background and monthly income of their families. In all analyzes, the significance level was determined as p <0.05. According to the results of the research, there is a significant difference between participants' gender, class, age, success in sport, duration of sport, educational status of their fathers, educational status of their mothers, working status of their fathers and income status of their families and free time satisfaction subscales it was found. It was found that the anxiety of negative evaluation of athletes according to their gender and general social physical anxiety levels did not differ statistically, the levels of physical appearance comfort anxiety differed statistically according to gender and the anxiety of physical appearance comfort of female athletes was higher than male athletes. There was no significant difference between the participant students' age, their success in sports, frequency of sport, educational status of their fathers, educational status of their mothers, working status of their fathers and income status of their families and social physical anxiety sub-dimensions.
