Evaluation of the contribution level of physical education and sports activities in high school education to personality formation with the socialization process and in gaining the responsibility to himself and the society

The aim of this study is the evaluation of the contribution level of Physical Education and Sports Activities in high school education to personality formation with the socialization process and in gaining the responsibility to himself and the society. The study universe is formed by 23 ( twenty-three) schools and 348 ( three hundreds and forty-eight) students that obtained the top three degrees in the competitions between the high schools in Isparta district in 2005-2006 education year. The sample group is formed by 23 (twenty-three) schools and 309 (three hundreds and nine) students that obtained the top three degrees in the competitions between the high schools in Isparta district in 2005-2006 education year. In the study the ideas and thoughts of the students were determined by a questionnaire. The questionnaire has three sections and 64 questions in total. In the first section in 29 questions their personal information and preferences, in the second section in 13 questions their thoughts about socializing process and in the third section in 22 questions their thoughts and ideas on their personality development were questioned. In the second and third sections thoughts of the subjects about the sense of justice in 3 questions, the sense of courage in 5 questions, honesty in 3 questions, delibrateness in 2 questions, strenuousness in 3 questions, realibility in 3 questions, decency in 2 questions, the sense of respect in 5 questions, the sense of responsibility in 4 questions and the consciousness of the citizenship in 5 questions were asked. The data gathered by applying the questionnaire method were arranged in MS Excel for the statistical operation. The appropriateness and realibility test was applied in SPSS statistical programmer. Crosstabulation and chi-square tests were applied in SPSS as statistical tests. The results of the tests show that the subjects willingly help the people who need help and show understanding and treat them with compassion, they always pay attention to important values in our culture like clothing and dress codes, they also be careful about individual differences in their behaviours in a group, they always respect social, material and moral values, their behaviours are appreciated by the people around them, they behave the others as they want to be behaved, in social events like earthquakes, fires they join the groups that work for the benefit of the society without the expectation of return, they obey etiquette and moral rules accepted by the society, as a good citizen they obey the law, they partially inform the competent authority about those who break the law, they use their knowledge, talents and experience for the benefit of the society, they make efforts to keep common places like streets, parks clean, being athlete teaches them not to fear trying new things, being athlete makes them force their talents limits, being athlete teaches them believing in themselves, taking risks, making right decisions, being athlete teaches them not to dread after a failure and they gain the habit of practicing to succeed, sport activities make them more confident in group work, they have the habit of being best all time, they keep themselves partially under discipline, they set goals and take place in the center of these goals, being athlete teaches them being impartial, joining the sports activities make them obey the rules, they agree with the idea that ?being athlete prevents you from being egoist?, they take responsibility arising from their deeds, they don?t blame others, before doing something they think the results and be sure of the rightness of the deed then they do it, they often make selfcriticism, they are open to the criticism, they keep their promises, they are faithful to their athlete friends and others, in any case they side with the truth, they have proper behaviours in terms of moral values and ethic, they think they are fair, intimate and honest, they think that lying and deceit are not the behaviours can be approved
