Abstract (EN)

In this study, relationships between leadership styles and personalitycharacteristics of school leaders were investigated.The Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire and Multifactor LeadershipQuestionnaire were applied to collect data.Pearson Correlation Coefficient, analysis of variance (ANOVA) anddescriptive statistics were used to analyze data.Sample of research, 38 principals and 346 teachers were selected from 38schools in city centre of AnkaraAccording to research results:1. School leaders perceived their transformational leadership stylesignificantly higher than teacher perceived.2. Transformational leadership styles of school leaders were significantlydifferent according to their job experiences. Transformational leadership styles ofschool leaders were significantly different according to job experiences of teachers.3. Transformational leadership styles of school leaders were notsignificantly different according to their educational level. But transformationalleadership styles of school leaders were significantly different according toeducational level of teachers.4. Transformational leadership styles of school leaders were notsignificantly different according to their gender. But transformational leadershipstyles of school leaders were significantly different according to gender of teachers.iv5. Transactional leadership style of the school leaders was not significantlydifferent according to perception of school leaders and teachers.6. Transactional leadership style of the school leaders was not significantlydifferent according to job experiences, educational level and gender of teachers andschool leaders.7. School leaders had (A+)?warmth?, (G+) ?Rule-Consciousness?, (H+)?Social Boldness?, (I+)?Sensivity?, (N+)?Privateness?, (Q1+)?Openness to Change?,(Q3+)?Perfectionism? personality characteristics.8. Personality characteristics of school leaders were significantly correlatedwith their educational level, job experience and age.9. School leaders personality characteristics were moderately andnegatively associated with transactional leadership and negatively correlated withlaisses faire leadership style which is a subgroup of transactional leadership.v
