Relationship between high school principals' diversity management skills and teachers' organizational commitment

Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted to determine the relationship between high school principals' diversity management skills and teachers' organizatıonal commıtment The population consists of 897 teachers working in the high school in the city center of Bolu in the second semester of 2017-2018 academic year. 628 teachers were chosen by easily accessible sampling method. 413 out of 628 distributed scales has returned. The scale applied to teachers in the research consists of 3 parts. In the first part, there are 5 questions related to the personal information of the teachers who will answer the scale. In the second part, there are questions of Management of Diversities scale, which consists of three sub-dimensions and 28-items, developed by Balay and Sağlam (2004) and Organizational Commitment scale, which consists of three sub-dimensions and 6-items, developed by Allen and Mayer and translated into Turkish by Hakan Dilek (2005). SPSS 20.0 program was used to analyze the research data. The normality of the distribution of variables was applied with Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests in order to determine which test techniques will be applied in the research data. The Mann-Whitney U Test was used to analyze the skill of managing diversities according to gender, marital status and school type variables; Unpaired T Test to analyze the organizational commitment according to gender, marital status and school type variables; Kruskal-Wallis test to analyze the skill of managing diversities according to age and professional seniority variables; One-Way ANOVA was used to analyze the organizational commitment according to age and professional seniority variables. Average, percentage, frequency analysis were performed to determine the perception levels, correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationship between the skill of managing diversities and organizational commitment. According to the results of the research, the average perception levels of teachers regarding the skills of managing diversities of the school administrators was found to be "high" in all dimensions. The average perception levels of teachers regarding the organizational commitment are determined to be at "medium" level; perceptions of teachers at emotional commitment dimension are determined to be at "high" level; "low" in continuance commitment and "medium" in normative commitment. Perceptions of teachers regarding the skills of managing diversities and organizational commitment of the school administrators did not differ significantly according to gender, marital status and school type variables. Perceptions of teachers regarding the skills of managing diversities and organizational commitment of the school administrators did not differ significantly according to age and professional seniority variables. According to the results of the correlation analysis conducted in order to determine the relationship between the skills of managing diversities of the high school principals' managers and organizational commitment levels of teachers, a significant, positive, moderate relationship was determined between the organizational commitment Keywords: School Administrator, Teacher, Skill of Managing Diversities, OrganizationalCommitment
