Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the distribution of the advance organizers in the 'Numbers and Algebra' learning area in secondary mathematics textbooks according to their type, function and presentation style, grade level and sub-learning area. The model of the study is the screening model from descriptive research. The research data were obtained from the 9-12th grade mathematics textbooks used in 2021-2022 academic year. The advance organizers were examined using classification template prepared by researcher. In the analysis of the data, the document analysis method was adopted. As a result of examination according to the types, it was concluded that there are expository and comparative advance organizers at all four grade levels, and expository advance organizers are more common than comparative advance organizers. Comparative advance organizers were not found in sub-learning area of 'Logic', 'Polynomials', 'Quadratic Equations', 'Systems of Equations and Inequalities' and 'Sequences'. It has been concluded that advance organizers in textbooks are used intensively with the function of illuminating the relations between concepts in the new information to be learned, the function of drawing attention to the new information to be learned is more limited than the other functions. As results of the examination according to the presentation way, it was concluded that the written advance organizers were used more than the visual advance organizers and that there were no verbal advance organizers in the textbooks. In addition, while written advance organizers were in every sub-learning area, no visual advance organizers were found in the 'Quadratic Equations' sub-learning area.
