Cyber-bullying behaviors/victimhoods among students of secondary education and awareness of teachers and school administrators

Abstract (EN)
In this study, cyber bullying behaviours - cyber victimization experiences seen among High School students and awareness of the teachers and administrators working in secondary education institutions were attempted to be defined . The study was performed with 56 teachers, 15 school administrators and 252 students studying at 9th, 10th, 11st and 12nd grades in 6 different secondary education institutions connected to National Education Ministry in Çal, Baklan, Bekilli the districts of Denizli having similar socio-economic aspects. In the study conducted with students "Cyber bullying - Victimization Scales" and "Personal Information Forms'' were used. In the study conducted with teachers and school administrators "Awareness Survey" was used as a data collection tool. The methods used for data analysis were "Frequency and Percentage, T-Test (Independent Samples), One-Way Analysis of Variance (Anova)'' . "The Content Analysis'' was applied to open-ended questions. The study indicated that %6,8 of the Students cyber-bullied once or more than once and %20,2 of the Students were exposed to cyber-bullying. It was found that male students showed cyber bullying behaviours more than female students. The study also indicated that Socio-economic parameters had no effect on these kinds of behaviours. However the frequency of internet usage and using internet for chat found to be effective in favor of cyber bullying – victimization behaviours. When exposed to cyber bullying %71 of the students stated that they would tell the situation to their friends , %42,1 to their teachers , %43,7 to school adminstrators and %56,7 to their parents. The study indicated that %73,2 of the teachers and %93,3 of the school adminstrators already knew concept of cyber-bullying and cyber-victimization . It was also found that %17,9 of the teachers and %73,3 of the school administrators carried out studies on prevention of cyber-bullying at their schools.
