Investigation of secondary education students views on the competencies of physical education and sports teachers (center battalgazi district example)

Objective: In this study, it is aimed to examine students opinions about physical education and sports teachers competencies in terms of various variables. Material and Method: Depending on the general purpose of the study, the causal comparison model was used in the study. The study group of the research consists of 1759 students who continue their education in official secondary education institutions in Battalgazi district of Malatya. Descriptive analysis, t-test and ANOVA (analysis of variance) were used to analyze the data. Findings: According to the gender variable, it was concluded that female students expressed a more adequate opinion in terms of teaching competence of physical education teachers and other dimensions than male students. According to the school type variable, it was determined that the students studying at Anatolian high schools expressed a higher level of opinion of the physical education teachers than the students studying in other types of high schools. According to income level, it has been determined that students differ significantly according to their families income. When the income level was examined, it was seen that the opinions of the students changed in all dimensions. According to the state of doing sports, it has been determined that students opinions about the competencies of physical education teachers differ only in the dimension of teaching competence. In other dimensions, it was observed that student views did not change. According to the status of joining the school team, it was determined that the students participating in the school team had a higher level of views towards physical education teachers in terms of teaching competence dimension and proficiency scale in general. In other dimensions, it was determined that students opinions about the competencies of physical education teachers were similar regardless of whether they joined the school team or not. Conclusion: The results of the research showed that there are significant differences in the opinions of secondary school students regarding the competencies of physical education and sports teachers according to gender, school type, income level, participation in the school team and sports habits.
