The relation between self perception and hopelessness level considering high school students

In this research, the relations between self perception and hopelessness levels of the high school students are analysed in aspects of various variables. The research was carried out with the relational survey model. A total of 514 students from three different types of high schools in Sakarya Hendek participated in this study. Students were chosen by random sampling method. In this study, Personal Information Sheet, Offer Self Image Scale and Beck Hopelessness Scale were used for data collection. The data of this research were analysed with the statistics package program of SPSS for Windows 11.5.According to the results of research, a positive and significant relation is seen between the level of the self perception and hopelessness of the students. The level of hopelessness of students are higher while the level of self perception is more negative. A positive and significant relation were found between the self perception of students and all of the sub-scales of hopelessness scale. According to the self perception level of students, significant differences were found out in terms of parameters such as school type, social-economic standard, academical success, attitude of parents, education of mother, education of father. In terms of the self perception level of students; gender, grade level, sibling order and the selected professions no significant differenses were found.According to the level of hopelessness of students, significant differences were found in terms of gender, the school type, social-ekonomic standard, academical success and attitude of parents. The level of hopelessness of students, no significant differences were found in terms of grade level, education of mother, education of father, sibling order, the selected professions. The result of the research were discussed and some advice were given.
