Review of relation between aggression reactions and social adaptation levels of secondary education students

The purpose of this study is to test the relation between aggression reactions and social adaptation levels of the secondary education students. Effort of decreasing the behavior disorders of the students by increasing their social adaptation shall reduce their aggression reactions and violence tendencies. This is a desirable case in order to minimize the acts of violence increasing day by day in our schools during the recent years.For the purpose of testing the relation between these two variables, aggression reactions and social adaptation levels of the survey attendants have been examined in terms of factors like gender, age, field of education, type of high school, type of school, education level of parents, socio-economic status of the family, profession of parents and whether the parents are alive. Furthermore, the fact that whether the aggression reactions of the survey attendants change according to their social adaptation levels has also been tested in the study.The review is a study in screening model of comparison type among the relational screening models. Subjects are constituted by totally 395 10th and 11th year secondary education students as being 239 females and 156 males receiving education in Kadıköy County during 2007-2008 academic years. Personal Data Form, Hacettepe Personality Inventory (HPI) and Aggression Scale have been used as the data collecting means. Independent Group t Test, Unidirectional Variance Analyze (ANOVA), post-hoc LSD and Scheffe Test, non-parametric Kruksal Wallis-H Test, non-parametric Mann-Whitney-U Test as well as Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analyze techniques have been utilized in analysis of the data.The results obtained from the study prove that there is significant relation between aggression reactions and social adaptation levels of the 10th and 11th year secondary education students. It has been concluded that aggression reactions of the students change according to their social adaptation levels. In another saying, it is seen that social adaptation decreases as the aggression increases.It has also been observed that aggression reactions of the students do not differentiate in terms of factors like income level, type of the high school in which the education is received, type of the school in which the education is received, education level of parents, whether the father is alive and profession of parents which are perceived as demographic variants, but do differentiate in terms of factors like gender, field of education and whether the mother is alive.It has been determined that the social adaptation levels of the students do not differentiate in terms of factors like field of education, type of the high school in which the education is received, type of the school in which the education is received, perceived income level, education level of parents, profession of parents and whether the father is alive among the demographic variants, but do differentiate in terms of factors like gender, age and whether the mother is alive.This review is expected to make contribution and offer an insight into the studies in this field.Keywords: Secondary Education, Social Adaptation, Aggression Reactions.
