Educational needs analysis of high school students regarding gender equality

The aim of this study is to assess the educational needs of high school students about gender equality. In accordance with this aim, concurrent mixed method in which quantitative and qualitative methods are used simultaneously was adopted in this study. The study group of this study were high school students and their parents. Data collection methods included Demographic Information Form and Gender Equality Perception Scale for Adolescents in the quantitative part of the study. In the qualitative part of the study, drawings of the students and semi structured interviews were used for data colletction. The results of this study have shown that although high school students have egalitarian perception about gender in general, there are still some students who embrace gender stereotypes and gender roles. Furthermore, it has been found that students' perceptions of gender varies according to their sex, grade, school type, mother's educational and professional background and father's educational background. However, it has been seen that students' economic conditions and father's professional background do not cause statistically significant difference in their perceptons of gender. Moreover, it has been revealed that while some parents embrace gender stereotypes and gender roles, others have an egalitarian perspective.
