Geographical concepts and geography education in history programmes in secondary school

The relationship between History and Geography is a subject which is interested by both historians and geographers. History deals with the past events and also reveals the relationships between people in the past and gives shape to the future. While doing this, it benefits from Geography. In which place the historical event occurs benefits from the data of Geography by the role of its geographical attributes in human relations and their importance.Firstly, in order to remove an absence about having no study in teaching Geographical concepts and their teaching methods in Turkey, it has been mentioned in this study that what the Geographical concepts are and how they are studied in the field. By doing this it has been shown a relationship between History and Geography. With all these information, it has been reached to a questions that how it can be learnt the Geographical concepts in high schools better and how it can be related the Geographical concepts and Historical events and by doing so how we can get higher success in the field.In National Education schools, it has been showed that experiment and control groups which are taken into consideration in the beginning of the search are at the same level in terms of pre-test but it has been succeeded that the students relate the Geographical concepts and Historical events by the explanation with visual materials in one group. On the other one, however, on which the orthadox system has been applied, it cannot be observed any acedemical achievement.Key Words: Historical Programmes in High Schools, Geographical Concepts, Concept Teaching.
