Abstract (EN)

This study is a research about the effect of constructivist teaching method on student success in Turkish literature classes during secondary education. The purpose of the study is to compare traditional teaching method with the constructivist teaching method, which was recognized in the world about twenty years ago and has gradually become widespread; suggesting that constructivist teaching method is more ' efficient in creating success and is essential to ensure that students can relate the things they see around them in life with the knowledge they acquire during lessons. In order to observe the effect of the constructivist approach on Turkish Literature class, an experimental group and a control group were selected, with the constructivist approach applied on the former and the traditional teaching method was applied on the latter. The same subjects were studied in class at the same time.Levels of readiness for the experimental group and the control group were ascertained through open-ended (classical examination) questions asked to them prior to the classes. The traditional teaching method was applied on the students in the control group, while the students in the experimental group were taught by means of a student-oriented approach which would allow the student to learn by experiencing and living, as required by the constructivist teaching method. With the aim to determine the levels of success after the application, a final test consisting of the same questions was applied to the students, whereby the effect of difference in methods was determined with an attempt to prove the accuracy of the hypothesis.KEYWORDS: Constructivism, Turkish Literature, Education, Structuring, Active Learning
