Culture is the entire of the ideas, the believes, the traditions applied in the life of people for centuries. The language and the culture are inseparable elements. People constitute their culture with their language.In the foreign language teaching, the notion of ?culture? has a preponderant place. During his courses, instructor benefits from the educational supplies like oral and written supplies based on the relation of language-culture in the foreign language teaching. The researches point out that the audio-visual aids have an important role not only for the development of the points of view of the learners about the culture of the target language, but also in the presentation of the source culture. The foreign language courses have to be arranged according to the effectiveness of the transmission of the cultural elements; the notion of the ?culture? has to be accentuated in the foreign language teaching; the instructors are due to take into consideration the cultural elements introduced in the methods of foreign language in order to emphasize the duality of the language and the culture which are the principal elements of a good foreign language acquisition. These two major notions establish and mutually nourish each other. When a foreign language is taught, it is not sufficient to teach the grammatical rules, it is equally necessary to teach the culture of the source language and the culture of the target language. In order to constitute an effective communication, it is necessary to give a grand place to the cultural components so as to ameliorate the intercultural education, the intercultural communication and the communicative competence in the learner.In the present study, we attached importance to examine the cultural elements in the methods of ?Salut I, II? according to the action-oriented approach which is a methodological approach in accordance with the recommendation of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of Council of Europe. The handbooks in question are prepared by the Ministry of the National Education of the Republic of Turkey and used in teaching French as a second language in the secondary education. We evaluated these cultural elements under the titles of « unit, title of the unit, name and the title of the course, page, visual aids, category, subjectstreated, activities and competences intended, objectives intented, skill/cultural elements?.In our study, we wanted to emphasize the notions of « culture » and the « language », « language-culture » relation, the importance of the cultural components in the foreign language teaching, the purpose and the importance of the transmission of the cultural components and the intercultural education in the foreign language teaching and particularly in the French language teaching.Key words: foreign language teaching, french as a foreign language (FLE), language, cultural elements, intercultural education, action-oriented approach, Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)?
