The effect of value education which is applied in secondary school 5 th grade social studies course on students' level gaining of honesty value

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of value education approaches that will be applied in the Secondary School 5th grade Social Studies course on the level of gaining and applying students' honesty value. This research is in the pretest - posttest control group trial model. Method of the research is mixed method since comparisons are made based on quantitative and qualitative data among the experimental and control groups in the research. In the 2016-2017 academic year, study group of research is consisted of two different Secondary School 5th grade which is affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Çınarlar District, Giresun province. One of these branches was selected as experiment and the other as control group by examining the equivalence of groups. 19 people are in experimental group and 23 people are in control group. In order to obtain data before and after the application, as a pre-test and post-test, the integrity scale, the cognitive level scale and the affective level scale were applied. In the experimental group, the program was integrated into the social studies course for 8 weeks and prepared according to the value education approaches. The pre-test and post-test results between the control and experimental groups were analyzed comparatively. To obtain quantitative data, the integrity scale was analyzedusing SPSS 22.0 package program. In order to obtain qualitative data, the cognitive scale was analyzed by the content analysis technique which is one of the qualitative research techniques and the affective scale was analyzed by the descriptive analysis technique. As a result of the research, students' level of gaining honesty value in the experimental group in which the values education program was applied, was found to be significantly higher than the control group students. The information which is obtained from the concept map that is used to obtain qualitative data is supported by frequencies and percentages. The data which was obtained from the cognitive scale was consistent with the data which is obtained from the honesty scale and it was determined that there was a difference at the end of the value education program and between the experimental and control groups. Emotional level scale was analyzed according to Kohlberg's Ethical Dilemma theory by taking expert opinion. Before the value education program, it was found that the ethics levels of the experimental group students and the control group students were close to each other according to the Kohlberg's Ethics Dilemma theory. But after value education program it was found that ethics levels of the experimental group students were higher than ethics levels of control group students.
